Island the only place to
get a road bike, or any bike manufactured by a real
bike company, is at an LBS.
The exceptions are the borderline market, that is,
Mongoose (which can be found at LBS and sporting
good chains) and the newly-acquired GT/Schwinn, which
can be found at Dick's Sporting Goods.
In fact, the only road bike I've ever seen anywhere
other than a LBS is a low-end Diamondback model at
Dick's Sporting Goods, which very recently put up it's
first few stores in this area. I had never heard of
them before.
They keep a stock of one of these bikes, as far as I
can tell, in each store; there is no price tag on it,
and it's generally not obvious that it's even for sale.
It looks more like a display, they've usually got it
hanging on a bike rack they're selling, or something.
I asked how much, and found it was something like $325.
That's great, if it's any good; I'd rather pay $325 for
that than $600 for a bottom-of-the-barrel Trek that's
not any better. Luckily, I bought a nice Giant that I
love, instead (before Dick's Sporting Goods showed up). ;)

Dick's Sporting Goods Coupon

Go to http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/graphics/email/GSI1_coupon.gif to print out the $10 off $50 coupon good toward In-Store purchase at Dick's

mourning the loss to the New England Patriots, there is a positive side that
will benefit the lives of thousands of needy people, thanks to Dick's Sporting
Goods. In anticipation of a Steeler Playoff win, Dick's staff worked around
the clock to provide fans with Pittsburgh Steeler official Reebok Locker Room
merchandise that would have been made available for immediate sale after the
game. Nearly 5,000 adult t-shirts and more than 1,500 sweatshirts with the
NFL-licensed AFC Championship logo were set to be sold at area Dick's Sporting
Goods stores.
Since the Steeler loss, Dick's has offered to donate the clothing to The
Salvation Army's World Services Office. The Salvation Army's World Services
official, Major Harden White, will be in the Pittsburgh Area on Tuesday, March
12th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Warehouse in Smithton at 3:00 pm to accept
the contribution.
This is the second year that Dick's Sporting Goods has entered into an
agreement that has permitted them to donate the clothing to a charity, rather
than throw it away. NFL rules mandate that merchandise depicting non-winning
teams be destroyed. However, Dick's has been granted special consideration to
contribute the items to The Salvation Army with the understanding that it leave
the continental United States.
"Dick's Sporting Goods has been an exceptional partner to The Salvation Army,"
said the organization's Western Pennsylvania Divisional Commander, Lt. Colonel
Joseph DeMichael. "They have supported us through our Adult Rehabilitation
Thrift Stores, Project Bundle-Up and many other projects. We appreciate their
extra effort in preserving these clothing items that will certainly be greatly
appreciated by thousands of needy families in Central America."
